Final Thoughts

Looking back at our finished project I feel that we have been relatively successful project after a slow start. Although there are things I would change if we were to do the project again, I think that we should of done a better job of planning the performance sections of the video as I feel they are a bit weak and had trouble making them less boring for the audience, perhaps we should of used different shots or maybe the perfomance itself could of been more lively. Aside from that there are a few smaller problems such as bad camera work and points where the lip syncing is a little off. However on a more positive side the meaning we wanted to create was understood by most viewers and our video is quite interesting from a visual stand point as we change location a lot and use different types of shot throughout. So, not too bad then but could of been better with more efficient planning.

Evaluation of our shoot

We ended up doing two shoots for our music video. Our original idea was to have a band performance as we wanted to replicate a 60's style music vido so we needed a stage or a hall to perform in. We were able to get a hold of a hall quite easily so there was not realy any problem with location. we also needed a kitchen scene and there was a kitchen available as well so we had all the settings we needed according to our plan. getting the instrumnts was not a problem as we have a musician in our group.

our first shoot was ok but compared to our second shoot we were not very organised and we didnt have much focus. i think that seeing the result of our first shoot made us more determined to do well in our second shoot. we concentrated a lot more the second time around and stuck to our plan. we also tried to be more imaginative with our shots to include a bit of variety. while we were on location we tried to make the most of what we had around us so we threw in a few new ideas too. the shoot went really well and we got everything that we needed.

Rough Cut

This is our rough cut, we have made a few changes to our animatic and added a few more shots. However next Tuesday we plan to re-shoot large amounts of our video because the performance shots are a bit too static.

The Gorilla Costume

This is the outfit we have purchased for the character of the Gorilla.

We decided on this outfit because it was affordable and suitable for our needs. It is also a likeable attempt at creating a Gorilla suit.

Final Idea

We have decided upon an idea!

The video starts with a shot of an empty kitchen, seeming ordinary enough a Gorrilla then strolls in! He takes a glass and fills it with water. Music begins to play out of the glass, and the camera zooms in to show the band perform. As the band play the scene explodes into colour.

The video then becomes a parrallel story between the bands performance and the Gorilla in the kitchen. At one point in the video, the Glass begins to shake and falls of a table to the floor...! The band appear, as if by magic, in the kitchen and for the first time we see the kitchen in colour, as the guitarist begins a solo. The Gorilla becomes scared and angry, stealing the guitar and playing his own solo before being chased around by the guitarist and band.

We end with the band and Gorilla united as friends and enjoy a nice healthy, band free, glass of water.

This is the style of attire we plan to wear in our video. The outfit creates a conrast between the band and the Gorilla.

It is also realistic of a 60's style of dress.

Video analysis

The camera work in this video has a variety of long shots, mid shots and some close ups. The also have a variety of different camera angles. The editing is just straight cuts from one shot to the next, which makes everything nice and quick which fits well with the pace of the music. None of the shots are held for too long so every few seconds they are showing different shots which makes it interesting to watch. The setting is quite unique as they are playing their instruments on punts on the river, they also play on the river banks and their is one shot at the beginning where the guitarist/singer is playing on a ledge stranded and surrounded by water. The performance is really good, they look like a real band and the video and the acting seemed professional.

Initial Ideas

The song, One Glass of Water, is reminiscent of a 60's Beatles style of music.
Because of this we thought it would make sense to make a recreation of a spoof 60's Top Of The Pops themed music video.

The Song is entitled, 'One Glass Of Water' because of this we realised that it would make sense to play under water, as if we were in a glass! It was then suggested that we could play as if we were in test tubes.

The Lyrics compare the singer to a gorilla. This brought about the idea of wearing a gorilla outfit in the video.
